How to be a billion pound marketer
Bids and tenders are the engine of the construction industry. From Tier 1 lead firms to the network of subcontractors supporting them, successful bids create security and jobs, while a run of losses can spell disaster. Yet marketers are often not part of the bid team. In 2019, leading bid consultancy JPC helped multiple clients win over £1.5BN of tenders with a 100% success rate. In this session, the JPC team will explain why marketers are at the heart of a successful bid and share ideas and tools to help you contribute to bid excellence and move the needle on your tenders' hit rate, with a real effect on the bottom line.
Speakers: Adam Strawbridge, Strategic Bid Director, JPC |

Trust and Storytelling in construction marketing
Your target audience will only engage with your communication if they trust the source and if the message is presented in a compelling and relevant format. With so many communications channels available to your customers, how do you identify the options that are trusted, how can you build trust in your own channels and then how do you develop the most compelling stories for those channels?
Presented by: Anna Hern, PR Executive and Chris Ashworth, member of the organising committee for The Construction Industry Group (CIMCIG) |
16:00 |
How to manage a communications crisis – from controversy through to cyber and terror attacks
Organisations in the built environment are at high risk from crises. Examples include quality failures in products and design, site safety and the wider potential for terror and cyber-attacks. This session will provide practical guidance on how to prepare your organisation for a crisis, what to do if one occurs and how to recover both operationally and reputationally. Audiences will develop an understanding of the potential crises that can affect the built environment and be instructed on how to prepare for, manage, and recover from a crisis, both from an organisational and reputational perspective.
Presented by: Dan Gerrella, CIPR council member and chair of the Construction and Property Special Interest Group (CAPSIG) |

Pam Hobson
Stakeholder Director
Highways England, A14 Integrated Delivery Team
Before joining the construction industry, and like may others, Pam would have believed the industry was all about digging holes, working in all weathers and it being no place for a woman. This may have been the case 20+ years ago, but the PR machine has been working hard to change this perception.
Coming from a customer service background in a completely different sector, Pam knew the importance of good service, how it relates to good brand image and how if you get it all wrong it can be very damaging.
For the last 18 years she has been at the front line of major civil engineering projects, trying to change the perception of construction with as wide a group of stakeholders as possible and ensuring the brand of all those involved in these projects are protected.
Pam is now the Stakeholder Director for Highways England’s A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme part of A14 Integrated Delivery Team.
